Description:
Medium-sized bunting with relatively short tail, longish bill and almost no white on tail. Has chestnut rump, and little or no white on tail. Male has chestnut head and breast, with coloration obscured in fresh plumage. Female has buff throat and yellow underparts; head pattern less striking than on Yellow-breasted.
Distribution:
Vagrant during the passage, with only records in Hunza district in Gilgit-Baltistan. Usually favors open forest and edges of woodlands, during migration in grain fields, stubbles and bushes in cultivations, and open tall herb fields.
Behavior:
Forages mainly on ground, flying up to branches of nearby trees when disturbed. Outside breeding season usually in small flocks. Diet during breeding season mainly invertebrates, such as caterpillars and other insects, as well as seeds; during migration and winter mostly seeds.
